USS Spokane WWII Canvas Zip Top
USS Spokane WWII Canvas Zip Top
This one-of-a-kind bag is smaller than our classic crossbody tote but just oh so special. It’s made from a vintage Naval duffle bag from WWII that still bears some details from the original piece. We researched the USS Spokane ship that the original sailor was stationed .
USS Spokane (CL-120) was a United States Navy Juneau-class light cruiser laid down on 15 November 1944 at the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Kearny, New Jersey; launched on 22 September 1945, sponsored by Miss Patrice Munsel; and commissioned on 17 May 1946, with Captain L. E. Crist in command
The bottom of the bag has been specially finished with washing, conditioning & burnishing the leather to give it a special lived in look to match the canvas fabric. It’s a natural veg tanned leather that will darken & patina over time.
We don’t get Naval bags to work with very often, so this is a real treasure. Two large pockets have the classic selvedge stripe that make this fabric so special and will keep all of your essentials close at hand. The tote strap is made from hand-cut + finished natural belting leather that will also soften and patina with wear. The top zips fully shut to keep all of your treasures safely inside. The inside is fully lined with our classic ticking stripe and there are two more pockets to keep you organized. We’ve hand stamped the details of the ship for a front patch along with hand sewing any any holes that needed repair. This special bag comes with an additional small leather pouch that can be clipped to the bag or use the clip to hold your keys. A small leather cross charm has been tied to the front & the zipper pulls have been finished off with some beautiful knot details. This is a very special piece of American history that's equally comfortable for travel or for everyday.
