Antique Linen Snap Off Strap Tote
Early European grain sacks were made from hemp and flax and were handmade right on the farms on which the hemp or flax was grown. After harvesting, the hemp was cleaned, spun into thread and subsequently woven into a heavy, durable fabric. That fabric was used to make large bags for grain, feed and other agricultural products for efficient transport from farm to marketplace. The distinct and familiar striping often seen on grain sacks was also a way for farmers to identify their sacks so the bags could be easily returned to their rightful origin. The unique character of each bag holds the history of a 19th century farm. This makes this fabric the perfect vehicle to create beautiful one of a kind bags.
These one of a kind bags differs slightly in size from color to color since the original piece goods are all slightly different widths. The front has 2 roomy pockets for storage & the hand cut & finished straps will darken over time to a beautiful caramel patina. The beauty of the strap attachment is that they can snapped off so you can wash the bag. The top of the bag snaps shut & has a striped webbing inside for extra reinforcement. The bag is fully lined & has 4 additional pockets.
These classic bags are truly a summer staple that can be used for years to come.
***Wash bags in cold water & lay flat to dry.
