Oversized Antique Linen Tote

$425.00

Early European grain sacks were made from hemp and flax and were handmade right on the farms on which the hemp or flax was grown. After harvesting, the hemp was cleaned, spun into thread and subsequently woven into a heavy, durable fabric. That fabric was used to make large bags for grain, feed and other agricultural products for efficient transport from farm to marketplace. The distinct and familiar striping often seen on grain sacks was also a way for farmers to identify their sacks so the bags could be easily returned to their rightful origin. The unique character of each bag holds the history of a 19th century farm. This makes this fabric the perfect vehicle to create beautiful one of a kind bags.

This very generous one of a kind bag has 2 roomy front pockets & a sturdy natural veg tanned bottom to protect the fabric. The top shuts with a strong magnet & the straps are hand cut a7 finished veg tanned leather that will darken & patina over time. The bag is fully lined in our classic ticking stripe & has 4 additional pockets to store your essentials. This bag is perfect for those summer trips or just around town.
